10. Jan 30, 2022. #1. I can't seem to get 5.1 sound to work onboard sound w/ MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX. MSI support page shows a download for Realtek audio console from Microsoft store but not working from the store (says problem is on their end and too retry ( (also followed all the troubleshooting store page provided)), all to no avail).

If when connecting a USB device to the front I/O the device does not get recognized or read by Windows, this can indicate a problem with the USB connection. Firstly, verify if the device works on the USB ports that are apart of the motherboard on the back. If this doesn't work still, make sure your motherboard drivers are up to date.

yeah after googling it seems common audio stopped working after upgrading to windows 11 guess at some point it will be fixed with updates/drivers I was thinking about getting wireless headset just to get away from wire tangling guess its decided now. I also could not hear any audio from the headphones. I tried plugging the known working speakers into all of the motherboard ports and there is no audio there either. I have tested another pair of headphones in every port after restarting multiple times and can not get audio to play through them unless the cable is plugged into the monitor.

I was able to run the generic "HD Audio" Windows 7 drivers and the issue went away - however the barebones drivers don't provide any enhancements or tweakability. I contacted MSI support and they said to wait 4-6 weeks for a driver update from Realtek (i.e. you're SOL buddy). So, I just ended up getting an ASUS XONAR DG PCI sound card.
